Mangalore, Mar 31: “The Congress Party leaders in the district are involved in concocting and enacting a drama of imaginary issues, to malign district in-charge minister, Krishna Palemar, without properly studying the facts relating to the mysterious disappearance of advocate Pritam Kumar. They have been misleading the people shamelessly,” claimed Monappa Bhandary, former president of the district Bharatiya Janatha Party (BJP), on Wednesday March 31.
Speaking at a press meet held here at the BJP office, he accused the district Congress leaders of making unfounded allegations with the sole aim of wresting power. He said that these leaders have started unfolding a drama of untrue facts before the people, directing false accusations at minister, Krishna Palemar, as they have nothing worthwhile to do. “They are aware that Palemar’s name does not figure in the habeas corpus petition filed by the mother of the missing advocate in the High Court. It is true that the advocate for the petitioner in this case had, during the hearing, prayed the court to include Palemar as a party to the petition. But, No favourable orders were passed by the court,” he explained.
As soon as he came to know about it, Palemar had instructed the superintendent of police (SP) and inspector general of police (IGP) to conduct proper investigation in the case, Bhandary added. He also claimed that his party too had urged the SP to hasten the investigation in the case. “The SP had assured us that he would provide information to us about the progress in the case with details of the investigations within 15 days,” he stated.
"The statements made by the so-called leaders, who are deadwoods in the Congress, are misleading the people. This is being done for fulfilling the political ambitions of these people, who are driven by lust for power, he said, predicting that those who are behind this vilification campaign, and unfolding an imaginary drama, will fail ultimately.
Being members of the Congress Party, which has a history of over 150 years, it is shameless on their part to level allegations that are not backed by any records or documents," he said.
During the Congress regime in the state, there were several murder cases, with the involvement of some Congress leaders. These people were maintaining a discreet silence then, but now they are heaping allegations on a BJP leader, which is unfortunate, he felt.
In the habeas corpus petition in the High Court, chief secretary of the state is the only person to have been mentioned as the respondent, but the Congress leaders have been misguiding the people during their protests by wrongly claiming that Krishna Palemar is also a party to the case, Bhandary explained.
“We have no objection whatsoever, about the demand for handing over of this case to the CBI. Our concern is that this case should be investigated fast,” Monappa Bhandary said, in reply to a query.
BJP leaders of the district, Nitin Kumar, Shrikar Prabhu, Sudhakara Joshi and Hemalata Gatti were present at the press meet.
