Mangalore: Bishop Dr Sadananda Appointed as Chancellor of Serampore University

Mangalore, Apr 1: Bishop Dr J S Sadananda of the Church of South India (CSI) - Karnataka southern diocese has been unanimously elected and appointed as the Master (Chancellor) of Serampore University.
One of India’s first universities Serampore College was founded in 1818 at Serampore near Kolkatta and granted royal charter by the King of Denmark, awarding the status of a university to confer degrees in Theology, Science and Arts. Since 1818, Serampore College became the only University for Christian Theology for all Protestant and Orthodox churches in India. Today, more than 50 theological colleges and research centres from all over India, Sri Lanka and Nepal are affiliated to Serampore University.
Bishop Dr Sadananda who brings along more than 35 years of teaching and administrative experience was the secretary of Board of Theological Education in India, for more than a decade. Since 2005, he served as the president of the Senate of Serampore University and president of Board of Theological Education in India. An eminent educationist, multilingual scholar and an able administrator Bishop Dr Sadananda is the first Kannadiga to become the Master (Chancellor) of Serampore University.
