Hindu outfit stalls film shooting in Varanasi

Varanasi (UP), Sep 10 (IANS): The shooting of the film "Love You Shankar" was stopped in Varanasi on Thursday following protests by a Hindu organisation.

The Hindu outfit protested against the dress worn by the dancers at the Assi Ghat and also against the lyric of the song that was being picturised.

Local activists of Hindu Yuva Vahini reached the spot and objected to the clothes worn by the artistes. After getting the information, the police reached the spot and seeing the tension mounting, the film unit packed up and returned to the hotel.

The protesters claimed that the film was against Kashi, Indian culture and religion.

The film is the first being shot in Uttar Pradesh since the Covid-induced shutdown.

The spokesman of the film unit told local reporters that the actors wore modern clothes as per the demand of the scene in the film. The intention of the team was not to hurt anyone's feelings at all, he said.

It is not yet known whether the film unit will continue with the shoot or return after Thursday's protests.
