Udupi: Two brothers from Shirva sentenced in chain snatching cases

Udupi, Sep 12: Relating to four separate chain snatching cases reported between 2012 and 2014, the third additional civil judge and JM/FC court delivered a judgment sentencing two brothers to jail terms.

Raviraj Devadiga and his brother Prakash Devadiga from Shirva were sentenced for the robberies. In three cases they were given one and half years of sentence each while in the fourth case, they got three years and nine months imprisonment. Fine of Rs 9,500 was also levied.

They were accused of moving in motor bike and snatching away gold chains from the women walking by the side of the road at Mel Belanjalu in Shirva village, Tottliaguri, road leading to the graveyard within St Mary's church compound and Kutyar.

The then Kaup police circle inspector, Sunil Y Nayak, had arrested the accused on April 12, 2014 and filed chargesheet. Judge of the court, Mahantesh Boosagol, who heard the four cases separately, found the charges proved and sentenced them.
