Mangalore: Honorary Doctorates for Oscar Fernandes, Dr Mohan Alva, Kolyoor Ramachandra Rao

Mangalore, Apr 3: “Mangalore University will confer honorary doctorates (Honoris Causa) on seven eminent personalities during its 28th convocation ceremony on Tuesday April 6”, said Prof T C Shivashankara Murthy, vice-chancellor, Mangalore University, on Saturday April 3.

Speaking at a press meet at Mangalore University College in the city, he said, “Former union minister Oscar Fernandes, educationist, promoter of sports and culture, Dr M Mohan Alva, chairman of Alva’s Education Trust, Moodbidri, Yakshagana artist Kolyoor Ramachandra Rao, nuclear scientist Dr Rakesh Kumar Bhandari, director, Variable Energy Cyclotron Centre in Kolkata, social service of A S Vishnu Bharath, chartered accountant, social worker Madhura M Chatrapathy, trustee and director of Asian Centre for Entrepreneurial Initiatives in Bangalore, and educationist and social worker R Chenraj Jain, chairman, Jain Group of Institutions in Bangalore, will be conferred with honorary doctorates during the convocation”.
“Dr Bhandari will be conferred with the Doctorate of Science (D Sc.) and others with Doctorate of Letters (D Litt)”, added Prof Murthy.
“Union minister of state for external affairs Dr Shashi Taroor will deliver the convocation address and Governor H R Bharadwaj will preside over the function. State Higher Education Minister Aravind Limbavali will be the chief guest at the programme”, he added.
“One doctorate of science in Material Science, and 62 doctorates of philosophy will be conferred in the convocation along with 30 gold medals, 56 cash prizes, and 70 ranks”, said Prof Murthy.
