Udupi, Apr 4: Leader of Opposition in Legislative Council Motamma said the public sector undertakings in the State had become dens of corruption under the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Government.

Ms. Motamma told presspersons that the report of the Comptroller and Auditor-General of India had pointed out that the losses made by the public sector undertakings in the State stood at Rs. 1,274 crore. This exposed the lack of administrative acumen of the State Government and corruption. The people of the State were now realising their folly of electing the BJP.

Since the mine owner Tapal Ganesh had alleged that Ministers from Bellary were behind the attack on him in Bellary recently, Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa should drop them from the Cabinet and order an impartial probe in the matter. But the Government was under the control of the Reddy brothers.

The State had failed in resource mobilisation and was running on the funds provided by the Centre. Of the Rs. 29,500 crore allotted for development works in the State, the Government had managed to spend only Rs. 22,500 crore.

There were no funds for the implementation of the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme. There were several irregularities in the implementation of the scheme. Frequent power cuts were haunting the people of Bangalore since the elections to the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) concluded. The Congress would get a majority in the BBMP. The question of having an alliance with the Janata Dal (Secular) for BBMP was left to the High Command.

The Anti-Cow Slaughter Act passed by the State Government recently was meaningless. The Government was busy acquiring fertile agricultural lands in the name of industrialising the State while mining was allowed in forests.

The State Government had failed completely in providing houses to the people affected by floods in North Karnataka. The Government should waive the crop loans of farmers of flood affected areas.

The Centre could not be blamed for increase in prices. Congress leaders Vasanth Salian, Veronica Carnelio, M.A. Gafoor, Shyamala Bhandar, and Sarala Kanchan were present.
