Vishnuvardhan Conferred Dr Rajkumar Award Posthumously
Shimoga: Apr 5 (DHNS): Lifetime Achievement award will be named henceforth after Dr Vishnuvardhan while the best supporting actor award will be conferred in the name of K S Ashwath, informed Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa.
Announcing this at the State film awards conferring ceremony 2007-08 held in the City on Sunday, he said that construction of Vishnuvardhan Memorial and Amrutha Mahotsava Bhavan, a building to commemorate the Diamond Jubilee of the Kannada film industry will begin soon.
Addressing a gathering, Minister for Information, Housing and Information Technology Katta Subrahmanya Naidu urged the State government and Karnataka Film Chamber of Commerce to conduct film awards distribution ceremony every year on the day of Ugadi festival.

“International film awards distribution ceremonies are held as per the schedule. On the contrary, State film awards distribution ceremony has been subjected to postponements in past. The event should be held annually henceforth in the interest of the film industry. The issue will be discussed with the Karnataka Film Chamber of Commerce and other organisations representing Kannada filmdom. Holiday should be declared for the industry on the day to facilitate the artistes to take part in the event,” he stated.
Vishnuvardhan was conferred Dr Rajkumar award posthumously and Bharati Vishnuvardhan received it. Parvathamma Rajkumar was honoured with Lifetime Achievement award. Cine stars Puneeth Rajkumar, Diganth, Bhavana enthralled the audience by dancing to popular Kannada numbers.
