Sep 16: The 13th edition of the Indian Premier League is all set to kick off on September 19 with eight teams participating in the competition. Each season we see a lot of changes teams make before the start of the season and the auction for this year took place in December 2019. Unfortunately, IPL 2020 did not start in April due to COVID-19, but now it will happen in UAE.
All the eight participating teams fans, cricket experts discuss which team could win this year’s IPL edition. A lot of people say the team with the most destructive batting lineup will win meanwhile many say top-class bowling will win. Some opine that the team that has spent more money during the auction, will win as they got some top-class cricketers with the money.
But is it true that having most expensive squad will give victory?
Well, that is not the truth at all. There was never a team having the most expensive roster in the season that won the IPL season since the tournament’s inception in 2008. As per the latest research done for all 12 previous editions, it is found that the most expensive squad does not guarantee to win the IPL.
Mumbai Indians has the highest-paid squad this summer. It does not mean they can not win IPL 2020. They can, but not with this parameter. The first edition of IPL was played in 2008 and won by Rajasthan Royals. The interesting thing about the Rajasthan Royals 2008 squad is it was the least valued roster among all the teams.
Still, Rajasthan succeeded in winning the Indian Premier League tournament. So, buying an expensive squad does not guarantee to win the cash-rich twenty20 league. If you follow cricket analysis and other sporting coverage websites and bet on IPL, you will hardly find that the most expensive team does not have good bets. The fact is experts put a value on the most balanced and composed team to be the champions.
This season of Dream 11 Indian Premier League will see title defending champions, Mumbai Indians playing Chennai Super Kings in the opening game at Abu Dhabi. All night matches will start at 7.30 pm as per Indian Standard Time.
Sunrisers Hyderabad, Mumbai Indians, Chennai Super Kings and Kolkata Knight Riders look to be the favourite winners in this year’s IPL and it would be the first occasion when the most expensive team wins the IPL cup if Mumbai Indians manages to win and defend its title.
