K'taka Legislature Panel Indicts 2 Former Top Bureaucrats for Scam in IT.com 2002 & 2003

Bangalore, Apr 7: The Karnataka Legislature Committee on Public Undertakings, probing alleged irregularities in organising IT.com 2002 and 2003, has recommended action against Vivek Kulkarni and S B Kolhar, former managing director and secretary of Marketing Consultants and Agencies Limited (MC&A), an ancillary of Mysore Sales International Limited (MSIL).
 
The committee has also recommended that the state government blacklist Cyber Media Expo for not paying the government Rs 56 lakh towards material supplied for conducting the expos. The committee has recommended action against the officials for failing to take action against the company and deciding to conduct the subsequent IT.com in 2003 with the same organisation.  Briefing the findings of the Committee’s report here on Tuesday, M K Pattananshetty, Badami MLA of the BJP, chairman of the panel, said the report of the committee was tabled in the Legislative Assembly March 4.
 
Mr Pattanashetty said the panel has decided to urge the State Government to initiate criminal proceedings against the Mr Kulkarni, Mr Kolhar and the Cyber Media Expo for not paying the amount.  The panel has also found irregularities in the afforestation programme implemented by the Karnataka Forest Development Corporation (KFDC) in the 1990s and sought action against N V Ramachandra Shetty, M K Appaiah, B R Baskar, A S Kumar, B S Adappa and M L Ramprakash, all retired officials of the Indian Forest Service (IFS).

The KFDC planned afforestation programme on 701 hectares of Government land by spending Rs. 17.92 crore. But it spent only Rs. 1.14 crore and took up the afforestion only on few hectares, the panel said. The panel would urge the Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa to take action against the officials involved implementation of the programme.
