Mangalore, Apr 9:
In a gruesome accident that occurred near Jeppinamogaru near Ullal Bridge here, a motor bike rider died on the spot, when a private bus and his motor bike were involved in a collision. Nearly 15 passengers were injured in this accident, as the bus moved aside into a ditch and rolled down, on the evening of Friday April 9.

The motor bike rider in question has been identified as Yakshith Shetty (22), son of Damodar Shetty and a resident of Mulihitlu near Bolar in the city. He was riding his motor bike towards city from Ullal, after attending a marriage function. Poojary had recently come home from a Gulf country on leave, family sources said.

The private bus, Mehaboob, swerved after the accident and rolled into a ditch by the side of the highway and rested on its side. The bus was on its way towards Kerala from the city. Three among the injured passengers have reportedly sustained serious injuries.

Heavy traffic on the highway was the main reason for the accident, said the people in the vicinity, who had witnessed the accident, adding that the bus driver lost control over his vehicle because of the impact of the accident.  But, the police sources guessed that over speeding on the part of either the bus driver or the motor bike rider, would have caused the accident.

Ullal police reached the spot and arranged for shifting of the injured passengers to different hospitals in the city and Ullal.

The authority should seriously look into the traffic violation in this region. We have a very casual RTO and almost all bus drivers are having field-day. Both Govt and private bus drivers are very rash and over-speeding, Like Kerala, these buses should be given the speed-limits and allot bus-stops. There should be the vigilance-squads to check those who violet the mandatory rules and punish them without mercy. You will be surprised that immediately things will change for good and the commuters and road users will no more fear those killer monsters.

The bus driver's of M'lore are very rash there is no doubt about that. There should be a minimum qualification sslc to be given a driving license so that he will have enough intelligence to follow the road rules. RTO should prepare a safety rules which all driver's should know by heart. A innocent man has lost his life because of this rash driver.

everyday the accidents are rising, and no officals are taking steps. I think the transport minister should impose tough rules such as penalty points, and then disqualify the licence for ever.make sure they dont come on the road.

sometime back there was an article on one mr ullal, (forgot his first name) asking why we should give more land for a 4 way road from mangalore to kerala. probably this may be one of the reasons. another thing he noted was when goa has less road width, why should we give more land. though i do not know much, i think its based on some called as vehicle density plying on a particular road at a particular time.

Thank God we are the proud mangaloreans . Atleast we have got 2 lne best national highway in the world and we dont want fancy 4 lane highwaywhich we are opposing since many years . If we thing logically 2 lanes highway causes somany accidents if there are 4 lanes the accidents can double isnt it? we mangaloreans are intellectual people thats why we hate progress in any form we dont want fancy roads we dont want electricity. why we should spoil our environment ? we can walk but we dont need best highways we can live withdarkness we are romantic people we oppose 24 hrs electricity. that idea itself is absurd
    jai ho mangalore culture!

A four lane road is the need of the day in this stretch between pumpwell and thokkottu. We always end up blaming the bus drivers. We should also be aware that there are so many other vehicles which literally fly on this road. Many two wheelers overtake from the wrong side, people joining the highway from cross roads keep driving in the wrong side till they get space to come to the correct lane on the highway. All these need to be monitored and people should be heavily fined when they violate the rules. I believe, no one here is so uneducated that they dont understand the rules and value others lives on highway.

Heavy traffic on roads do not cause a bus to fall in a ditch! Infact, it restricts speed because of traffic congestion. However, this is not a new thing for us to hear time and again that buses plying on roads to and fro Mangalore are always speeding and honking as though they have the right of way always. Traffic police can never control the speed of such buses in the city limits, leave alone the buses speeding on highways! One look at the mess everyday, every hour at Balmatta junction is enough to understand the traffic chaos and how helpless our dear traffic cops have become. It's a pity, no matter how much we argue or talk on this topic, it is the commuters who meet with injuries or death.

Private bus drivers should learn to share the road with pedestrians and other vehicles. Rash driving and road rages are often causing such incidents. Bus operators, drivers should be heavily fined.
