Kuwait, April 10: Tulu Koota Kuwait (TKK), under the leadership of its first lady president, Swarna Shetty, organized ‘Family Day– 2010’ for its members and their family members on Friday April 9, 2010 at Mishrif Garden.
The programme started with the serving of Mangalorean breakfast, followed by the formal inauguration of the programme by TKK president, Swarna Shetty, through the hoisting of Tulu Koota flag. National Anthem of both Kuwait and India were sung solemnly. Swarna Shetty delivered the welcome address. A cracker show was arranged on the occasion, after which, the programme for the day started with the traditional Tulunadu game, ‘Tharai Katta’.
In tune with the tradition of Tulunadu, various games were held for different age groups. Children below five years of age participated in the game of throwing the ball to the wicket, zig zag and puzzle, whereas games like bowling the ball to the wicket, clip race, dart, walking with the ball and breaking the pot were held for the children aged between five and ten years.
For the adults, games like Kutti Donne, Kho Kho, Tonka, Shakthi Pradarshana (sand race), Jiblee, Shot-put, Breaking the Pot, Rocks to Doll, Lagori, Teppangai, Kodapana or Bucket Race, Marble (Goli) race and Govinda were organized. Tug of war had also been arranged. The couples participated in the Couple Tonka and Rolling the Rope games. Mouth-watering typical Mangalorean lunch was served to all those present.
In spite of the fact that other popular programmes like Indian Carnival, KCWA’s Kala Milan and Ballerian’s Box Cricket etc., had also been scheduled on Friday, The TKK picnic succeeded in drawing a very good crowd of Mangaloreans.
