Dhaka, Apr 11 (IANS): A Bangladeshi singing couple have launched an album of Rabindranath Tagore's songs to pay tribute to the Nobel laureate ahead of his 150th birth anniversary.
Sajed Akbar and Salma Akbar launched the album "Tumi Amar Chiro Kaaler" here Saturday.
"The 10 songs in the album are mostly Tagore's numbers written on love, nature and puja-parban," Sajed Akbar said at the launch.
"In 2011, everyone will be celebrating the 150th birth anniversary of Tagore; the album has been released as a tribute to the kabi guru," he said.
Among the songs in the album are "Adhek Ghumey Nayan Chumey", "Chaitrapabaney Momo Chitya Boney", "Bashanti Hei Bhuban Mohini" and "Jagey Nath Joyotsna Raatey".
The Bangladesh Rabindranath Saangeet Shilpi Shangstha (BRSSS) will hold special programmes from May 4-8 to celebrate the 150th birth anniversary of Tagore, Akbar said.
Both Akbar and his wife are joint secretaries of the BRSSS.
India and Bangladesh, both of which have Tagore songs as their national anthems, will jointly celebrate the birth anniversary of the poet.
