Mangalore, Apr 12: National general secretary of the Bharatiya Janata Party H.N. Ananth Kumar said here on Sunday that the party would move a cut motion in Parliament against the restoration of petrol and diesel duties, when tax proposals in the Union Budget are debated in the second half of the Budget session.

Addressing presspersons here, he claimed that other Opposition parties were also planning to move the cut motion against the increase in the prices of petroleum products.

Then the Speaker will have no option but to admit the motion as one, he said.

He said that the party workers would lay siege to Parliament on April 21 against the failure of the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) Government to control increase in prices of essential commodities. The prices of essential commodities trebled in the past five years, he claimed.

Mr. Kumar said that the government should ban future trading of essential commodities as it would result in rise in prices.

The National Democratic Alliance (NDA) Government had kept 16 essential commodities out of the future trading.

He said that the party would launch a signature campaign against price rise in the country. As part of it, 10 crore signatures would be submitted to the President.

Mr. Kumar alleged that the corruption at the higher level was responsible for rise in prices of essential commodities. However he did not elaborate.

Referring to naxalite activities, he said that the government should take steps, including launching air strikes, to curb their activities. The government had a Constitutional duty to protect the internal security of the country. The BJP would support all measures to be taken by the government to end naxal activities.
