Mangaluru: Families face danger from landslide at bus stand site

Mangaluru, Sep 29: Landslide occurred at an area in Pumpwell on Monday September 28, earmarked for building the bus stand for the city where the land had been levelled earlier. As a result about 25 houses located below the area face risk and therefore these families are worried, said former MLC Ivan D'Souza.

He said that during his visit, he found that he landslide happened as mud from an elevated area was removed by using backhoes without taking suitable precauationary measures. The rescue teams which visited the spot have advised the families shift from there to safer places. "I have requested the city mayor, commissioner and the district deputy commissioner to build a protective wall in view of the danger posed by the landslide. They have promised to do the needful," he stated.

Local corporator, Keshava, and former corporator, Stephen Maroli, were present.
