Bangalore: 'Perfect Murder' Landed them in Net !

Bangalore, Apr 14 (TOI): They wanted their first crime to be a 'perfect murder' and took care to ensure there were no clues. But they got away with the murder of popular doctor from Sanjaynagar Dr Sharath Kumar for only four days.

A team of City Crime Branch sleuths and Sanjaynagar police arrested seven persons, including a 24-year-old girl, for the murder on April 9. After collecting over 800 gm of gold jewellery as ransom, they killed him near Kunigal.

Ravi Kumar, 28; Aswath Gowda, 25; Shiva Pratap, 25; Chetan Kumar, 20; Bhushit, 20; Kumar, 30, and Sanjana, 24, were arrested and the police recovered 660 gm of gold and Rs 1.32 lakh from them.

The mastermind Ravi Kumar was a gym instructor in Sanjaynagar and Sanjana was one of his many girlfriends. Along with Aswath Gowda, his assistant, and the others, he hatched a plan to kidnap Dr Sharath for a steep ransom.

Ravi knew that Dr Sharath owned some commercial complexes in Sanjaynagar and earned a large sum of money as rent. He roped in cab driver Kumar as well as Chetan and Bhushit, both BBM students.

On April 9, Ravi requested the doctor to come to his house to attend to his ailing mother. When Dr Sharath went there, the gang demanded Rs 25 lakh for his release. When he said he couldn't arrange such a large amount in cash, Ravi Kumar made Dr Sharath call his friend and jeweller Shailendra and asked him to deliver 572 gm of gold jewellery to his house. Later, he forced Dr Sharath to call Shailendra and asked him to deliver 264 gm of jewellery to a medical shop. While Ravi collected the first consignment from Dr Sharath's wife Anjali, Bhushit collected the second consignment from Nagendra at the shop.

Initially, the gang thought of collecting the jewellery from Shailendra directly, but were scared the shop's CCTV camera would record their faces. They drove Dr Sharath in Kumar's cab to Kunigal and went to Amruthur. They strangled Dr Sharath, and dumped the body near Amruthur and returned to the city.

When Dr Sharath did not return till April 10, Anjali lodged a complaint with the Sanjayangar police. Based on cellphone records, the police traced Dr Sharath's body to Amruthur.

Police commissionrer Shankar Bidari said, "The police had been keeping a watch on the movement of some persons. One of them led us to Ravi Kumar."

THE RANSOM

The gang put one gold chain into a temple hundi. Sanjana was given around 60 gm of gold jewellery, which she tried to dispose of through her brother. The gang pledged around 187 gm of jewellery with Muthoti Finance, R T Nagar branch for Rs 1.34 lakh. Both Chetan and Bhushit went to Ooty but were arrested when they returned on Monday. Ravi told the police they planned to start a business venture with the money.

I was shocked to see the huge people crowd in our geddalahalli on saturday but thts when i got to know that DR.Sharath kumar as got murdered.... But i have never seen the doctor. and now its too late. I wish that his soul should rest in peace. But the main reason for me to comment on this blog is coz, all the tv channel and newspapers have got wrong information that the victim girl's name is sanjana no her name is sandhya... please correct. thats coz i know her from her class 7 to 10th. as she studied with us in the same school. No doubt she is got into this activity she was a big culprit and lier from those days. i will even want to talk about her brother who is no ways different from. please hang her to death with those geddalahalli slum boys.. she is so cheap and shameless girl to get along with those boys just for money. she is from a lower middle class family where her parents used to work hard for there children. please my heartly request to the media and police that she has to be punished very badly.

When I heard this news from my sister, who lives in Sanjay Nagar, I was agitated. Youngsters these days lack moral and humanitatian values, they want quick money to spend lavishly. But what is very cruel is , a nurse worked under the kind-hearted doctor can turn in to an accomplice with the murderers... who has seen the doctor working long hours, for the poor and needy, without thinking of the monetary benefits. I condemn her and she is a disgrace to the noble profession. This world has be come a place where money plays important role, where money can move anything....this doctor is totally a different one ...they snatched the noble life.. orphaned the Sanjay nagar People.
Give them capital punishment..sothat youngsters will be warned in future. They should
not under estimate the brains of our police...
The criminals should not think that they can escape a perfect murder..They must know that they will be dealt with iron hands..Kudos to the crime Branch...
I pray to God to restore peace to the family of the kind hearted doctor. How long have we to wait for a gem of a man to come and serve the society?
We Indians are very popular in the foreign countries.. because we have a notorious history ...of killing Mahatma Gandhi, Indira Gandhi and Rajiv Gandhi...
    Shame on us..

Dr Sharth was a man of integrity. Selfless in service & a humble person by nature. May his soul rest in peace.
The killers should be given severe punishment as they took advantage of a person who had come to help them, thinking that they are in distress.

I've known Dr.Sharath kumar Since my childhood.
It was really saddening to hear about the murder of a nice person like Dr.Sharath kumar.
He was a very kind and gentle person. who used to treat many poor patients for free at his clinic, And used to pay even for their medicines.he is still alive in the hearts of all his patients forever.

The culprits should be "SHOT DEAD IN PUBLIC"  so that such incidents never repeat.CCB did a good job in nabbing culprits,Now the question is what they do to culprits.

Criminals are not born as criminals. They are a creation of today's society. The divide between the have's and have not is growing,if we do not restrain this growth, we shall see more worse crimes committed.Look at the age group, they all are below 30 in their prime. If we do not harness our youth into constructive pursuits of building a humane and vibrant society then we shall have to take the blame too.Let's begin today in our own homes.Charity begins at home but should not remain there.

If they are not hung in public more and more people will turn to crime so it is necessary to know that punishment is death, so some fear will be created in the criminals.

Everyone wants to make quick money these days, by hook or by crook, starting from politicians and police whom we look up to in society. When such is the case, one cannot blame if even common man thinks of making money, by hook or by crook.

Ofcourse the punishment should fit the crime, and the law should be made the same for everyone. There should be capital punishment (death by hanging), to ensure that people are scared of committing crimes of robbery, murder etc. That way i salute the gulf countries. Even a lady can walk in the park alone, in the night, without any chance of theft or rape.

    Hi ,
I have been going to the doc from 20 years since i was a child of 6 yrs. I have been very disturbed over his murder. not a moment of peace since the incident. can only imagine what his family is going through.
He is the hardest worker i have seen in my life. Worked even on sundays till 11 pm. he came to treat my mum even at 3 am. almost immediately arrived on call. never said no to a patient. a kind hearted person. he used to treat poor people for free even. a perfect gentleman. a family doctor like none other. never got a diagnoses wrong for us. we respect him immensly. we always discussed how lucky we were to have a doctor like sharath so near by. we almost took him for granted

Dr Sharath...rest in peace....you will be missed, sanjaynagar will never be the same again without you. hope ur culprits burn in hell for eternity. I hope people can learn your work ethics.

To sharath's family :- hope ull find the peace you'll deserve. Anjali bhabhi, i hope your daughter recovers from her state of shock quickly. peace!!!

    regards,
    makhija and family

This is not fair. Why only showed the face of lady. Let the people recognize the other criminals too.. Daiji take one step ahead, post their face as you bravely did in any other crimes.

Mastermind Ravi Kumar is a Gym Instructor? Make him not to be fit for Garbage Collector also.
My goodness!!! all teenagers and how we can Indian flag remain high? Good that they caught at the first attempt, else may be in future they might have ruled Karnataka, if not the world.

One thing we should note here that, they have a fear of God too and they thought if they ransom God, they will be saved. what a foolish thinking. I pity for their parents. How they feel now? This is not any of the parents expect for their childrens.

The teenage tigers are in the cage now, right time to train and mould them. Bring the fear of God in them and let them cry bitterly and someday live a life which pleases to God.
Every failure in life is a Lesson.

Please parents watch out the activities of your childrens and give them good moral. so that tomorrow you will not see the time as these teenagers parents saw.
    GIDAWAGHI BAGGADDU MARAWAGHI BAGGITHE?
City Crime Branch sleuths and Sanjaynagar police, we salute you.. good job. Else in future they might have brought more terror in our region joining with other Raudys and Mafia.
