Udupi: Gandhi Jayanthi celebrated at St Mary's English Medium School Kannarpady

Udupi, Oct 2: The 151st birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, the father of the nation was celebrated with great fervor at St Mary's Kannarpady.

The chief guest along with other dignitaries offered floral tribute to the portrait of Mahatma Gandhi. An all faith prayer session was conducted in which the hymns from Bhagavad-Gita, Bible and Quran were recited and interpreted.

A brief documentary film depicting the life and message of Mahatma was presented by Smitha and Lavita. Chief guest Prasad K Pai, the Doctor researcher at TAPMI , Manipal and also the alumnus of the school highlighted the relevance of simplicity, honesty and truthfulness, the noble values propounded and lived by Gandhiji.



 

Fr Valerian Mendonca, the correspondent in his presidential address said that the present generation should draw inspiration from Gandhian principles and exhibit the moral courage to fight the violence and injustice with the weapons of truth and non-violence.

Bhajans were sung by teachers' choir spotlighting the Gandhian message of peace and Harmony.

The programme was conceptualized and coordinated by Fr Johnson Sequeira, the principal of the institution. Vice-principal Rita Quadros introduced the chief guest Prasad K Pai recollecting his close affinity with the school. Assistant parish priest Fr Ashwin Aranha graced the occasion.

Sangeetha conducted the programme. Shashikala extended words of welcome. Sumalatha proposed the vote of thanks.
