Mangaluru, Oct 4: Police personnel of Kankanady city police station and Ullal police station arrested six people in connection with the various incidents of thefts and dacoities that took place in petrol bunks during the night, under the limits of Bantwal and Mangaluru city police station.
The arrested accused are Mohammed Suhail alias Acchu (19), a resident of K C Road, Ashique alias Ahmed Ashique alias Kolle Ashique (19), a resident of K C Nagar, Abdul Rahiman Faizal (21), a resident of K C Nagar Talapady, Mohammed Arfan (20), a resident of Maharaja Heights apartments, Falnir road in the city, Mohammed Irfan (20), a resident of Kotekar Ajjinadka and Mohammed Rameez (19), a resident of Adyar, Kannur.
Lethal weapons that were used during the acts, helmets, bikes and cash has been confiscated from the arrested accused. Search is on to arrest two more accomplices of this gang as per the information provided by the city police commissioner Vikash Kumar in a press conference that was held in the city on Saturday, October 3.
The accused had entered the office of Damodar Suvarna petrol bunk at Ujjodi in the city of Mangaluru on bikes on the night of September 20. They had broken the shutter and stolen the money that was kept in the office. A case in this connection was registered in Kankanady police station. On the same night, an attempt was made to steal money from a petrol bunk under the Mangaluru rural police station limits. On the same night, the theft had taken place at a petro bunk under the limits of Bantwal city police station.
A special team was formed under the leadership of DCP, ACP and police inspector of Kankanady police station. When this team conducted an operation and arrested the accused, seven acts of crime came to light as per the information shared by the commissioner of police.
On September 20, the gang had threatened the workers of a petrol bunk at Dasakodi of Bantwal and had looted money from them. On September 3, the gang had stolen cash after breaking open the door of the office of Bharath petrol bunk at Pilatabettu, Daikinakatte under Punjalakatte police station limits.
The same gang was involved in stealing cash from the ATP machine of MESCOM of Kotekar Beeri in 2019. They had stolen cash from the office of St Sebastian educational institutions under Ullal police station limits on September 23 after breaking the CCTV. The gang had also attempted to steal cash from Indian Oil petrol bunk at Adyar under Mangalru rural police station limits after breaking the window and glass on September 20.
Petrol Bunk Owners' association had submitted an appeal to the police department requesting them to provide security due to the increasing number of thefts that were taking place in various petrol bunks.
