Kundapur, Oct 5: Police arrested two persons in connection with serial theft in Kundapur surroundings. Three incidents of theft took place a year ago.
The first theft took place on May 5, 2019, at Mullugudde, Kavradi village. As per the complaint of house owner Nagaraj, he had been for work outside when the house roof tiles were removed and gold, silver and iron box and cash totalling Rs 64,900 was stolen.
The second theft took place on June 17, 2019, at Kolkeri, Basrur village. The complainant Mahalinga and family had gone out for work when thieves entered the house through the roof and broke open the cupboard and looted jewellery and cash amounting to Rs 2 lac.
The third theft took place on November 26, 2019, at Kundapur railway guest house when resident Subba Devadiga and family had been out in the night. Thieves broke open the cupboard and stole jewellery and cash.
The police arrested two people who are Wilson Piadas Lopis (29), residing near Doditala church, Manki Honnavar taluk Karvar district, and Gangadhar (40), resident of 2nd cross Thokkette.
Police have recovered 64.76 grams of gold and 112 grams of silver and an ironing box.
Wilson was a resident of Manki staying at Basrur and Katkeri in a rented house. He used to steal gold and give it to Gangadhar who used to mortgage it at a co-operative society in Kundapur. Wilson was previously arrested in a theft case and released on bail. Cases against him are pending at Bhatkal and Manki police station.
Udupi police in-charge Vishnuvardhan has instructed SI Kumarchandra and IPS Hariram Shankar to lead the investigation team. The police team has submitted the recovered jewellery to the court. The investigation team included PSI Rajkumar, Shankarnarayan station PSI Shridhar Nayak, Kundapur rural station PSI Sadashiv also Kundapur rural police station officers Satish, Anil, Manjunath, Santosh, Sitaram, Victor, Gururaj, Uday, driver Ravindra, Suresh and CDR department officer Shivanand.
