Mangaluru, Oct 8: Dakshina Kannada district Congress Committee president, K Harish Kumar has charged the central government of instigating the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to conduct raid against Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) president, Shivakumar.
"Under the leadership of Shivakumar the Congress is poised to register a thumping win in the assembly by-polls. The BJP government at the centre has sensed this. It instigated the CBI to target Shivakumar with the objective of denting his morale. It has become a habit for both Modi government and Amit Shah to harass people at the time of elections in the guise of some old cases. The Congress committee severely opposes this. He said that the BJP is also trying to shift the people's attention away from the rape incident in Uttar Pradesh, atrocities on farmers, anti-labour policies and APMC act amendments.
Vedavyas Kamath's rebuttal: MLA D Vedavyas Kamath accused the Congress leaders of getting busy with misguiding the people in connection with the raids conducted by the CBI on D K Shivakumar. He advised the Congress leaders to understand that the CBI would not have raided their leader if he had not committed any wrongs. "Irrespective of who commits the mistakes, the CBI raids happen as they have the right to do so. The CBI does not care whether the person concerned belongs to the ruling party or not. CBI has not conducted raids because Shivakumar is a Congress leader but because he has committed mistakes on the basis of concrete information."
In a release, he said that the Congress leaders, to reap political benefits have been unnecessarily trying to bring disrepute to the BJP by dragging it into the controversy.
