Mangaluru: 966 pension payments withheld for bank account number mismatch

Mangaluru, Oct 8: Monthly pension payments of 966 beneficiaries has been temporarily withheld as the bank account numbers provided by them do not match with the bank records. Monthly pensions are paid to beneficiaries under various social security schemes including destitute, infirm persons, widows, specially-abled persons etc who are below the poverty line.

A total of 1,46,610 people get monthly pensions under different schemes in the district. As at the end of September this year, pension was not paid to nearly 2,197 beneficiaries. Out of them, 1,231 are pending approval from the government, said deputy commissioner of the district Dr K V Rajendra.

He advised the beneficiaries facing problems in relation to disbursement of pension to hand over copies of their Aadhar cards, bank accounts and pension sanction order to the village accountants or the concerned officials in the taluk office. He said that in case of National Family Subsidy Scheme and funeral subsidy schemes where grants have been sanctioned, the government has been requested to release the grants.

He promised to see that the information from beneficiaries who have not received pension are collected, included in the database and submitted to the government and assured that every beneficiary receives the pension due to him/her.
