Udupi, Oct 9: “The people should be educated by public campaigns regarding the precautions that are to be taken to curb the spread of coronavirus infections,” stated health and family welfare department chief secretary Jawaid Akhtar to the officials.

In a video conference held with the information department commissioner, all the deputy commissioners and district panchayat chief executives, he said that Covid pandemic is spreading rapidly these days. “More than 10,000 cases are reported every day. Creating awareness among people is necessary to prevent the spread. Awareness about wearing masks, maintaining social distance and hygiene is essential,” he said.

“The awareness should be held at a lower level of society. There should be wide publicity in October and November using media and modern technology," he added.

Commissioner of the department of information, Dr P Harsha said that publicity to reach the last person in the society is possible by cable TV. “Social media should also be used effectively,” he suggested.

“False propaganda about Covid is rampant these days. It should be clarified. Free medical treatment should be made available on the fingertips through mobile phones using modern technology. The experience of people who have recovered should reach others,” he said.

Health department commissioner Pankaj Kumar Pande, health campaign director Arundhati, DC G Jagadeesha, chief executive Dr Navin Bhat, DHO Dr Sudhir Chandra Sooda, Covid controller Dr Prashanth Bhat, district survey officer Dr Vasudev and others were present.
