Tax officials claim 'evidence' against Kolkata Knight Riders

Kolkata, April 22 (IANS) Tax officials who conducted search operations at the offices of the Bengal Cricket Association and Shah Rukh Khan's Kolkata Knight Riders till the early hours of Thursday here claimed to have found "incriminating evidence" of irregularities.

"We have found incriminating evidence. We will investigate further. We needed to have a look at certain transactions and we've found whatever we were looking for," said Indian Revenue Service Deputy Director Akhilendu Jadhav.

The main angle that the sleuths of the Directorate of Income Tax Investigation were looking for on the probe into the Indian Premier League (IPL) franchises was the legality of money transfers from tax havens abroad, primarily Mauritius, officials explained.

This apart, officials of the Directorate of Enforcement were probing the legitimacy of transactions between the franchise and the state's cricket board, the officials added.

Searches at both the board's office at the Eden Gardens stadium and the premises of Kolkata Knight Riders and its parent Red Chillies Entertainment of actor Shah Rukh Khan at ITC Sonar Bangla and Shakespeare Sarani began at 3 p.m. Wednesday.

The federal revenue department had Wednesday broadened the probe into the financial deals of IPL, even conducting search operations on three of its event management and broadcast firms in Mumbai, apart from the franchises.

The 10 franchises under scrutiny are Kochi's Rendezvous Sports, Pune's Sahara group, Mumbai Indians, Delhi Daredevils, Kolkata Knight Riders, Royal Challengers Bangalore, Deccan Chargers, Chennai Super Kings, Rajasthan Royals and Kings XI Punjab.

Most of the investors of the IPL teams were all big punters like Mukesh Ambani, Vijay Mallya, Sahara's Roy, SRK, Modi etc. There was a huge transaction of black money with shady people, betting, match-fixing etc. which is part and parcel of IPL T20. There are politicians, black-marketers, smugglers, murderers, drug lords etc. in IPL. The profit of IPL should be used to develop other sports and their stadia. Even a portion should go for rural uplifting like clean drinking water, closed toilets and health-care.

Yes, I agree with Dave. Infact SRK's Red Chillies may be 'too chiilie hot' when it is stuck up SRK's ...... U know where..do I have to say it? Though I like cricket 20/20, I do not appreciate the shady money deals behind it! I am wondering why the IT department and the so called 'desh bhagti' politicians did not investitigate right from the start i.e. IPL-1? I am sure Mr. Kapil Dev is having the last laughh!! after all he is the one who pioneered in India the T-20/20 franchise with his ICL which was banned by the BCCI!!...Where is Sahrad Pawar NOW? I am wondering why did S. Gavaskar back Kapil Dev's ICL when he started? Anyone wants to respond? Appreciate.

Yes,Lailt Modi should be removed & IPL should be discontinued as it is nothing but bogus show of opulence of the few rich in India to the world . Whereas the true story is children die in thousands in Madhya Pradesh due to starvation, people below poverty line keeps on increasing year by year. These few thugs like Mukesh/Nita Ambani, Vijay Mallya, P Zienta, S Khan, S Shetty/Raj Kundra,S Tharoor/S Pushkar,Sahara Group,Videocon,AdaniGroup,Praful Patel, Sharad Pawar/ Supriya Sule/Sadanand Sule/B R Sule, Lalit Modi, Rajiv Shukla & few others are making money out of IPL.Instead give these millions to the Poor & feed their stomach, God will be Happy, Save Tigers & other Animals & Birds that are going to be extinct in India soon & save Rivers & Mother Earth from Pollution of the Chemicals that we spew each minute & spoil the gods greatest gift to us Fresh Air, Water & Soil.Save Trees & Stop cutting of precious Forest cover on the earth. Instead of IPL invest the money in these good things & see the Good Great Lord Smiling at us & blessing us with prosperity. Whereas now he is crying up there for making the greatest mistake of creating Humans on earth who are hell bent to destroy all the good things that he has created. Give money for Food for life programme at ISKCON & feed the poor. My request Do not watch IPL & waste ur hard earned money.

Any person with little common sense should understand that IPL is a means to switch all unaccounted money (black) to accounted status (white). Almost all the film stars and business magnates accumulated enormous unaccounted sum which they cannot use. (Example: there was a theft of Rs. 75lakhs in BJP leader Hema Malini’s house which most of us read in the news recently.) How anyone can store such a huge sum at home.If she has that kind of cash money then imagine King Khan,Shilpa,Preity.
These people may deposit such money along with stadium cash sales and give an accounted status to such huge amount.
As they have to pay tax to the deposited money, they try to play some other dirty games.

Public must demand to ban the Income Tax Department and not IPL at this time. At least make sure the current employees are sacked including the governing body of IT. Just for the reason they were sleeping till last night and have to wait something to come out the cupboard to conduct their inspection. I feel pity on congress government as well because this time they are more interested not in irregularities at Various offices but to find a way to sack Lalit Modi.
