Bantwal: Youth jumps into Netravati river in suicide bid, saved

Bantwal, Oct 19: A youth tried to kill himself by jumping into Netravati river from the old bridge near Panemangaluru in the taluk. He was saved by Goodinabali Mohammed and team.

The youth who tried to commit suicide is identified as Kumar, a native of Hassan district. He is being treated at Bantwal hospital.

Kumar, works as a driver in a private bus that commutes between Mangaluru and Bengaluru. He tried to kill himself by jumping in his uniform itself from the old bridge at around 8.15 am on Monday October 19.

Locals, who saw Kumar jumping into water, informed the matter immediately to ace swimmer Mohammed, who went in a boat and rescued the youth and got him admitted to Bantwal government hospital.

The reason for this extreme step taken by the youth is not known. Shihab and Swali helped Mohammed in the rescue operation. Recently, Sevanjali Foundation had donated Seva Rakshak boat, which acted as a life saver in saving the life of the drowning youth.
