Bengaluru, Oct 22: The state department of collegiate education has been preparing to reopen degree colleges. It has asked teaching and non-teaching staff of all the government-aided and private colleges to compulsorily undergo COVID-19 tests and submit test reports.

Highly placed sources in the department said that there is a possibility of the colleges reopening during the second week of November. The department is thinking of taking a final decision after discussing with chief minister, B S Yediyurappa. Commissioner in the department P Pradeep said that a special standard operating procedure has been drawn up for the college reopening.

It is gathered that the department plans to conduct both online and offline classes for the students. Because of widespread Covid 19 infection, the beginning of the academic year here has been delayed. Some states including Andhra Pradesh have taken steps to open degree colleges from November first week. Deputy chief minister Dr N Ashwath Narayan, had declared that degree colleges would reopen in the first week of November.

The department plans to conduct both kinds of classes and students who do not have any digital facilities and want to attend classes at the college can do so with permission from parents. The others can attend online classes. Those who attend classes in the college and are also interested to attend online classes have to register themselves in their colleges.
