Bengaluru, Oct 22: Billava Association, here, held a programme at Billava Bhavan, Bannerghatta road here, on October 18 at 3 pm to distribute scholarships to economically backward children of their members.
Upparapete traffic department inspector Shantaram lit the lamp and set the programme in motion. He said that getting an education in this competitive era is the aim of all. “Under the circumstances, Bengaluru Billava Association has done commendable work of encouraging students by distributing scholarships,” he said.
President of the Sangha, M Vedakumar welcomed the guests and explained the pro-society work of the sangha. He said that scholarships are already distributed to 40 poor students. The sangha is getting free Ayushman cards done for the members. “The sangha is running a free hostel for students. It intends to start a free hostel for girl students, start a school and an old age home for senior citizens,” he said.
Nearly Rs five lac worth scholarships were distributed to 70 students in the society on the occasion.
Honorary president of the Sangha, Bhasker C Ameen, advisory committee member Laxman Ameen, senior vice-president Keshava Poojary, vice-president B M Udayakumar, chief secretary Bhasker Poojary, joint secretary Rajesh Kumar, treasurer V Gopal, organizing secretary J Narayana Poojary, ladies wing president Jalaja Shekar and Seva Dal president Shivanand Salian were on the dais.
Scholarship committee member D N Sampath Kumar compered the programme. Vice-president B M Udayakumar rendered the vote of thanks.
Registration for Ayushman cards was held earlier from 10 am. More than 200 members got their names registered maintaining social distance and obtained free Ayushman cards. The monthly executive meeting was held from 11 am. Lalita Sahasranama programme was held for the ladies unit members from 12 pm.
