Bidar, Oct 27: Former chief minister of Karnataka and leader of the opposition, Siddaramaiah faced some embarrassing moments after his dhoti slipped from his waist when he was addressing the people on the dais. However, he quickly recovered his wit and laughed off the incident.
A programme was organised to pay tributes to the late MLA B Narayana Rao at his memorial near Sastapore bungalow in Basavakaiyan in the district on Monday October 26. Siddaramaiah's dhoti had become loose and was about to fall down when town police station police sub-inspector Guru Patil, who sensed that the situation might turn ugly, rushed to the dais and alerted MLAs, Ishwar Khadre and Rajsashekhar Patil. Patil immediately alerted Siddaramaiah. Siddaramaiah, who was momentarily fazed, tightened the dhoti around his waist. When tying the dhoti he tried to ward off the moment by saying in lighter vein that his stomach appears to be suffering from hunger and that is why it had become loose.
The leaders said that loosening of the dhoti was a good omen and that he might become chief minister again. He jocularly told them not to say so as people who hear such comments get hurt. "Let us see what the people will decide," he said.
