US Central Bank Keeps Interest Rates at Record Low

Washington, Apr 29 (DPA): The US Federal Reserve continued to keep interest rates at a record low of near 0 percent to help fuel a recovery in the world's largest economy.

The Fed's benchmark federal funds rate has been held at a 0-0.25-percent range since December 2008. A statement from the Fed's board maintained language that rates would be held low "for an extended period".

One of the Fed's 10 board members opposed the central bank's statement, preferring to signal that rates will be raised sooner rather than later.
