Belagavi, Oct 29: The stir planned to be held by Koodalasangama Sri Basavajaya Mrityunjaya Swamiji at Suvarna Vidhana Soudha here on Wednesay October 28 seeking reservation for Lingayat Panchamasali sect was withdrawn on the basis of assurance given by chief minister B S Yediyurappa.
Yediyurappa spoke to the Swamiji with the mobile phone of MLA Murugesh Nirani. On the basis of the assurance given by him, the Swamiji ended his hunger strike by consuming tender coconut water. He said that a delegation of MLAs will soon meet the chief minister to discuss the matter.
The Swamij arrived here from Hirebagewadi seeking to cover Panchamalsali community under category 2A. He started his hunger strike by offering Linga Puja on the dais in the morning in the presence of people's representatives, legislators and hundreds of people from the said community.
Deputy chief minister, Laxman Savadi, Rajya Sabha member, Eranna Kadadi, and assembly deputy speaker, Anand Mamani, were present.
In the afternoon, water resources minister Ramesh Jarkiholi visited the venue in the afternoon and said that he will discuss with the chief minister and make all out efforts to see that the community gets reservation benefit. He said that because of election code of conduct, assurance cannot be given but added that they are with the community. He said he was part of the delegation in 1990 when they went to the central government and requested to grant reservation status to the community.
