Madikeri, Oct 31: On social media, an effort which succeeded in pressurizing a group of tourists to come back and clear the litter that had left by them by the side of the road, has come in for a lot of appreciation.

On Friday afternoon, a group of tourists moving to Dubare had eaten pizzas and thrown several empty pizza packets by the roadside. Madetira Thimmaiah from Kadagadalu village, a lover of nature who was passing by that road, noticed the waste. He wanted to dispose of the waste properly. At that time, he found the bill for buying pizza and also the telephone number which was in the name of Chirag in the heap of empty pizza packets.

Thimmaiah called the number and asked the concerned to come back and take away the waste. He also warned of filing police complaints. Chirag said that they were on their way back and were nearing Mysuru and regretted his inability to come back to clear the waste. He regretted for having littered the roadside. But Thimmaiah insisted that the team should come back and vacate the waste failing which he warned of complaining to Mysuru police commissioner.

Thimmaiah also posted the video of the waste on social media duly giving the mobile number of the person. He also requested nature lovers to call the person and pressurise him to take away the waste. Many environmentalists from Kodagu called the number and urged Chirag to take the waste back. The team of tourists which had crossed Periyapatna, which was under tremendous pressure because of calls, came back, put the waste back into their car and went back within two hours of the beginning of the campaign.
