Protest over Shivalinga desecration in Ranchi


Ranchi, Nov 5 (IANS): People staged protests on Thursday over the desecration of a Shivalinga in the Upper Bazaar locality of Ranchi.

On Thursday morning a Linga at a Shiva temple in Ranrez Gali of Upper Bazaar was found broken. The news spread following which shopkeepers in the locality closed their shops and staged a protest demanding arrest of the accused.

Ranchi Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Surendra Jha, and other police officials reached the spot to pacify the people. Heavy deployment of security forces has been made in the Upper Bazaar area of Ranchi. Upper Bazaar is the market hub in Ranchi.

According to police, the situation is tense but under control. The police is trying to trace the criminals through the CCTV footage.

The Opposition Jharkhand Party has condemned the incident and demanded immediate arrest of the accused.
