TDP state panel office-bearers appointed, weaker sections favoured

Amaravati, Nov 6 (IANS): Less than a month after appointing Telugu Desam Party (TDP) Central Committee and Politburo members, its national President Nara Chandrababu Naidu appointed the office-bearers of the party's State Committee on Friday, mostly favouring leaders from the backward classes and weaker sections.

"In tune with TDP's renewed efforts to move closer to the weaker sections, over 61 per cent representations have been given to them on the State Committee," said a TDP statement.

Of these, 41 per cent posts were given to Backward Classes which, according to the statement, reflects TDP's traditional patronage of these classes since its inception.

"Care was taken to provide 50 per cent representation to the sub-castes in the respective categories," the statement noted.

Naidu appointed 18 state committee Vice-Presidents and 16 General Secretaries.

Popular TDP personalities such as Payyavula Keshav, Devineni Umamaheshwara Rao, Bhuma Akhila Priya, Panchumarthi Anuradha, Buddha Venkanna and others have been appointed as state General Secretaries constituency-wise.

Naidu also appointed Gurajala Malyadri from Tirupati constituency as Knowledge Committee Chairman and Maddipati Venkata Raju from Gopalapuram constituency as Programmes Committee incharge.

Mente Pardhasaradhi from Bhimavaram constituency is the State Committee Treasurer.

Similarly, 18 more official state spokespersons have been appointed to fight for the party at multiple platforms.

The TDP President also appointed 59 state Organising Committee Secretaries and 108 state Secretaries.

Nallari Kishore Kumar Reddy has been appointed as the TDP's Central Committee General Secretary. In total, the State Committee consists of 219 office-bearers.

Many of the new appointees are former MLAs or former Ministers.
