Puttur: Wooden Log Rolls Down, Worker Killed

Puttur, May 5: While unloading wooden logs from a truck near a saw mill in Sampya in the taluk, a worker of the mill was crushed to death, as one of the logs came crashing on him, on Tuesday May 4 afternoon.

Shivappa Gowda (55), a resident of Veeramangala in Shantigod village in the taluk, lost his life in this fashion.

Gowda had been working for Venkateshwara Saw Mill, Sampya, since the last about 25 years. It is said that a rope tied to the logs suddenly snapped while Shivappa was working at unloading the logs. He suffered critical injuries on the spot and died while being taken to a hospital in Mangalore, it is gathered.

The deceased is survived by two sons and three daughters besides wife. The personnel of Sampya police station have registered a case.
