Islamabad, May 5 (IANS) Pakistani authorities have arrested several suspects reportedly linked to the failed car bombing in New York.
Faisal Shahzad, a naturalized US citizen of Pakistani origin, was arrested in the US Monday over the failed attack.
Shahzad's friend Tausef and father-in-law Iftikhar Mian were picked up by intelligence personnel from a house in the southern city of Karachi, Xinhua reported Wednesday quoting the Dawn newspaper.
According to the report, Faisal's wife Huma Mian and two children are in Pakistan but it could not be confirmed if his wife had also been detained.
Xinhua report said Faisal Shahzad had come to Karachi in 2009 and was the son of retired air vice marshal Baharul Haq.
The Nation newspaper quoted an intelligence officer as saying that Shahzad received militant training in Kohat in northwest Pakistan.
The area around Kohat is a stronghold of Tariq Afridi, the main Pakistani Taliban commander in the region, it said.
According to The News, security officials in Karachi said they had arrested a Pakistani man who had spent time with Shahzad during his visit to Pakistan. The man was identified as Muhammad Rehan.
Xinhua said that arrests related to the failed bombing had also been made in Lahore and Rawalpindi.
