Kaup, Nov 7: Members of the municipal council who met in a meeting chaired by Anil Kumar in the council auditorium after 23 months, decided after complaints from members to write to the government to continue the current tax rates for another year.
As there were cases in the court thrice questioning reservation for the post of president and vice-president it hindered the elections for the post of president and vice-president at Kaup municipal council and the members were deprived for 23 months from power. BJP member Arun Shetty suggested filing a case in the court to adjust the duration. The members agreed to it. MLA Lalaji R Mendon, asked to hold an unofficial meeting in this connection and take a decision after obtaining the advice of legal experts.
There were discussions over creation of a standing committee in the council causing huge discussions and arguments between ruling and opposition party members. BJP had submitted names of seven members and Congress had submitted names of five members for the standing committee of 11 members. As Congress gave up a name, the president requested to cooperate for unopposed elections as per tradition. But Congress members threatened to walk out of the meeting twice.
Senior member, Sulochana Bangera who was psychologically hurt tried to end the discussions by a model decision. She asked to give up her name from the list. Finally, seven members from BJP and four members from Congress were elected for the committee.
