Mangaluru, Nov 11: Under the 'One India, One emergency helpline' concept, the helpline number 112 will be operational even in Dakshina Kannada district shortly.
A call made to 112 goes directly to the district coordination centre from where necessary help will be extended. This is an emergency help number and through this number services of police, fire department, health and other emergency services can be availed.
Requests can also be made through www.ka.ners.in website, by email to erss112ktk@ksp.gov.in or 112 India Mobile App. This is a 24*7 emergency call for citizens which will get immediate response.
The facility of collecting the details of the place from where the calls is made has been enabled through digital technology. This helps the quick response vehicles to immediately and easily reach the spot. This also helps in providing immediate response for emergencies faced by women, children, senior citizens and others.
How to call: In case of normal phones, the number 112 has to be dialled. The call becomes active if the number 5 or 9 is pressed for long. In case of smartphones, the number 112 can be called or pressing the power button thrice activates the call.
Dakshina Kannada district superintendent of police B M Laxmi Prasad said that emergency helpline No 112 will become active in the district in the coming days and arrangements for the same have been made. He added that ten police vehicles have been earmarked for the purpose.
