Udupi, May 8: The gram panchayats located in Udupi and Karkala taluk are facing the poll on Saturday may 8. Polling is being held from 7 am to 5 pm at polling booths opened in all the villages.

On Friday May 7, officials deputed for polling duty, collected ballot boxes and other materials from T A Pai English medium high school in Udupi Kunjibettu, and Karkala taluk office, which functioned as mustering centres for these taluks.

The fate of candidates who have filed their nominations for the 61 gram panchayats in Udupi taluk and 29 in Karkala will be decided today. Out of the 1,033 seats in Udupi district, 51 candidates have been elected unopposed. In Karkala, election will be held for 465 seats.
