Udupi, Nov 13: In a meeting presided over by deputy commissioner, Dr Tallur Shivarama Shetty was elected chairman unopposed of Indian Red Cross to the position vacated by Basrur Rajiv Shetty.
Six members of the management committee of the Red Cross district unit had requested the deputy commissioner, who is the president of the Red Cross to conduct a no-confidence motion against the chairman, Basrur Rajiv Shetty, secretary Balakrishna Shetty and treasurer T Chandrashekar.
The meeting was chaired by the deputy commissioner at Jean Henry Dunath auditorium, Red Cross Bhavan. Vice-president of the Red Cross, chief executive of the district panchayat, Dr Navin Bhat was present.
Dr Shivaram Tallur is a well-known entrepreneur of Udupi, yakshagana artiste, arts promoter and three-time recipient of the Kannada Rajyotsava award. He had served in the Yakshagana Kalaranga organization as Kala Rangabhoomi president for ten years. He has also morally supported students under Tallur Family Trust.
