Mangaluru, Nov 17: District Youth Congress and Mulky-Moodbidiri Block Congress are set to hold torch light protest rally from Circuit House to Bajpe airport on Wednesday November 18 condemning the privatisation of Mangaluru International Airport (MIA).

Addressing the media here on Tuesday November 17, District youth Congress president Mithun Rai said, "The public is agitated with the move made by the government to privatise Mangaluru International Airport and handing it over to Adani Group. We condemn the privatisation of the airport and renaming it to Adani Airport which has diminished the culture and history of the coastal belt. We have already conducted protest, hunger strike, and this was not done for the sake of publicity or to gain political mileage.

"We demand to rename the airport to Koti Chennaya Airport as proposed earlier. In this regard, we will hold a torch light protest rally from Circuit House to Bajpe airport on November 18. District Congress president Harish Kumar, former MLAs Ramanath Rai, J R Lobo and others will take part.

"Bengaluru, Mumbai and Gujarat airports were also privatised without changing the name of the airport and the former names have been retained. MP Nalin Kumar Kateel lacks will power to take up initiative in renaming the airport. Congress is known for nationalising while BJP is known for privatising. Congress is taking up this initiative and will protest, while in the coming days like minded organisations will also take part in the protest. Decision will be taken on conducting indefinite hunger strike demanding the same.

"We can also notice that earlier there was 'Tiger Dance' art inside the airport which signifies the culture of Tulunadu, which has now been replaced with Adani logo with an art of an elephant. We want the tiger dance art back in it its place in 24 hours. They can place the Adani logo any other place they wish to," he said.

    Is it beyond too little, too late and too much, too late - that Congress has woken up regarding this issue. With due respect to all those who are opposing to this airport name change, I think you could have acted earlier while name change process was proposed, announced and processed at the end. Now when it is all done with and Adani Group has already taken over, why are we waking up from our deep slumber? With hidden agenda of the present ruling party, these things will happen in all cities and every where. And mind you, nothing can be done by anybody. They will keep doing what they think is right and you will watch them doing it, like mute spectators helplessly.
    It is truly unfortunate that Govt is busy doing these un-wanted things while crucial issues are not attended to. Have we misplaced our priorities some where? If yes, it is a dangerous trend.

    Not only name it as Adani Airports,, but airport announcements on PA System should be in Gujarathi a and Hindi only, AS MANY OF OUR PARENTS CANNOT UNDERSTAND ENGLISH, KANNADA OR TULU.

    it is too early for protest. These people do not know when the air port was sold . Good that what activities are given to handle by Adani and what activities are controlled by the aviation ministry, are not known by most of the people.

    As per Government of India rules, at present No AIRPORTS CAN BE NAMED AFTER A PERSON as the International Flights are finding it difficult to pronounce the name, This happened after Bangalore Airport was named after Kempe Gowda International Air Port. If this minimum knowledge is not known to the leaders, God Only can protect their party.

    Its valid point if we have a responsible oposition. If its only a namsake opposition whcih will oppose anything that Govt proposes, then there is no need of consulting Opposition. As for Public, they will hold the Govt acountable for their deeds during elections. Thats the power of Democracy. What is the use of such opposition whcih just for the sake of oppoasing, telling lies and misleading people. Is there a IOTA of truth in the opposition claim that MIA name is changed ? Adani Airports manages 9 Airports in India. Are all those name changed ? Height of stupidity of congress supporters who buy this story.

    I can't understand if Congress leaders are Dumb or their followers. Earlier airports Authority of India was managing Our airport, now it's Adani Airports, a firm under Adani Group which looks after Airport operations. These jobless leaders are misleading their Supporters.

    DP (Dubai Ports) World manages number of ports world wide and they have their signage as DP world everywere. That doesn't mean that Hong Kong port is now Dubai Port. Wa marl maree

    What is there in a name? An Airport is an Airport. As long as there is improvement in the service at the Airport, it really does not matter. Bangalore was renamed as Bengaluru but even to this date hardly anyone writes Bengaluru in their address. Similarly even though it may be renamed as Adani airport I am sure most of us will continue to call it Mangalore Airport

    People who are against Adani taking over Mangalore airport management should stop using the airport as a strong protest and promise they will never use the airport. If any congress party member or supporter is seen using the airport , then they support Adani taking over the airport.

    Iam surprised when they say Mangalore international airport name has been changed to Adani airport. If they have let them show the proof on the airtickets or boarding pass.

    Congress is very late in their every move. However When we see Mithun Rai leading from the front it shows some hope. Every Mangalorean is annoyed when we see the board "Adani" in our airport as ADANI built this airport and mangloreans using it.

    Politicians of all parties are trying to be in the limelight. They want improvement done by someone and credit to their party. This is the real face of all parties. If Adani got the contract, certainly they will improve the efficiency of the Airport hence it might generate employment. When they improve over all quality they want publicity as well. Whats wrong in removing all unwanted things from the Airport. In fact they should not keep any religious things which always create problems in public. Whoever opposing, They have to see other international airports and staff... Just opposing is waste.

    In my view, the Mangalore 'Airport' is gen used by the upper middle class to travel . Perhaps few times a year. Even if you manage to change the name it does not matter much. I fail to understand how will a torch light rally by 10-15 people make a difference. There are other burning issues in DK that needs to be fixed, if the Cong shows its presence in those forums, perhaps someone would recognize. This will go the Vijay Bank way.

    Our people have changed St.Aloysius college road to MSR Shetty road and are in the process of changing existing road and place names in the city to some other names.This is their only capability.
    Mangalore airport has been leased to Adani Mangaluru International Airport Ltd. this is after the investing and spending a lot of money from the public exchequer and after it was fully developed by the government. So I do not think the government will allow them to change the airport name.

    The services at the airport is improvised and it is perceptible as i used the departure and arrival at the Mangaluru International airport just a couple of days back .....
    Airport name is not changed only the operator's name changes from Airport Authority of India to Adani Airports .....
    We too support naming the airport after 'Tulunada Veerapurusher' Koti-Chennayer .....
    Koti Chennaya International airport would be a flawless choice .....

    If there is unity among all opposition parties, then it will be very easy to solve this problem. There is no value for any good work done by our resistors, for this part of the district, Now politicians only rule the district. We need educated and literate representatives.     Who has changed name of airport? No One!!!

    Adani Airports is the entity that operates the airport now. Previously the operation was with Airports Authority of India. So "Adani Airports" replaces "AAI" and "Airports Authority of India" on signboards.

    Mangaluru International Airport remains just that and I doubt under the agreement terms Adani Airports has the right to change name of the airport.

    Guys you people don't like anything to be changed. If you are traveling from abroad or domestic you experience how efficient Mangalore Airport is. Can we call as International Airport???.. How custom officers are treating... When we travel abroad and if we had to register there nobody available even after waiting an hour... Let any one take it and we need Improvement. Just putting Tiger dance photo nothing will improve.
