Bengaluru: Chamarajpet police sub-inspector suspended on rape charges

Bengaluru, Nov 17: Police sub-inspector of Chamarajpet police station here, Vishwanath Biradar, stands suspended. Biradar faces complaint of rape. The police department decided to suspend him based on a report submitted by Dakshina Kannada district superintendent of police.

In two separate complaints registered in Dharmasthala police station in Beltangady taluk, Dakshina Kannada district on November 9, the young woman and Biradar have accused each other. The lady says that Biradar had accompanied her to Dharmasthala on November 9 where they stayed in a lodge. She says that the sub-inspector had promised to marry her. The lady claimed that during the stay in the lodge, she was raped, and Biradar returned to Bengaluru without marrying her.

Biradar has said in his complaint that the girl had urged him to marry her. He has said that she also threatened to commit suicide if he did not agree to her marriage proposal. He also has claimed that the lady blackmailed him by placing a demand for payment of ten lac rupees. It is alleged that he was threatened with registration of rape case if he failed to pay money as demanded.
