BJP picks Narayan from Mangaluru, a printing press owner, for RS seat in Karnataka

Bengaluru, Nov 18 (IANS): The central leadership of the BJP on Tuesday picked Mangaluru-based unsung party worker K. Narayan for the lone Rajya Sabha seat in Karnataka that is going for bypoll on December 1.

The BJP national leaders had surprised everyone in June when they picked Eranna Kadadi and Ashok Gasti, both unsung party workers till then, for the Rajya Sabha. Not many knew much about these two leaders then.

Both had been dedicated workers since their student days. Unfortunately, Gasti succumbed to Covid-19 almost two months ago. Since then the BJP leaders in the state strongly felt that the vacant RS seat should either go to Gasti's widow Suma Gasti or to BJP leader Nirmal Surana, whom the party had appointed as national general secretary in-charge of Puducherry.

But the BJP national leaders again surprised all by picking Narayan, who runs a printing unit in Mangaluru, for the RS seat. For the last several years, he has been printing pamphlets of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh and its various affiliated units for free.

A senior RSS leader told IANS that it was unexpected that he would be picked for the RS seat.

"He has not only helped the RSS and other wings in printing pamphlets, but has also been a dedicated worker for years. He belongs to the Devanga (weaver) community, which is one of the neglected and miniscule backward class communities in the state like the Gasti community, which belongs to Savita Samaj (barber)," the RSS leader said.

Another BJP leader in the state unit told IANS that such selections at times are done to send a message to the people across the country.

"The media all along focussed on Suma, the widow of Ashok Gasti, and senior BJP leader Surana. But by picking Narayan, the national BJP leaders sent a loud and clear message that they do not encourage dynastic politics by rejecting Suma's candidature, while Surana did not belong to the backward classes, hence his candidature may have been overlooked this time," he said.

Narayan has been working with the RSS and its affiliated wings for more than three decades and his work in tribal areas and with backward classes communities, especially among school students, is what sets him apart from his peers in Mangaluru.

Affiliations apart, we have to appreciate such good moves in the opposition. A grass root level worker is given a chance. Even for that matter, the Surya guy was only a pamphlet distributor in 2014 elections. Today he is a MP.
On the other hand, In congress you have to be the Chelas of the likes of DKS, Siddu etc to get a ticket and you can contest 5-6 times irrespective of the results or work you are doing. No wonder minorities are slowly joining, BJP minority Morcha, DFI, SDPI etc. When the 'luck' are we going to introspect?

    That is the difference.
In Congress you still have 75, 80, 90 year old Khargas, Motis, Diggies and other good for nothing fellows who only do chamchagiri and no work of note which catches eye of public. All selfish people.
Main reason for Congress being in the dumps but nobody listens.
Moreover de facto Congress president also called 'Gummaa' by Obaama..Imported certificate.
Pull up your socks Congressmen before it is very late.

I really appreciate this move, elevating a dedicated party worker, though I am not a supporter of BJP for apparent reasons.

BJP is a party of difference, congress plays musical chair - musical chair among few leaders only .....
Any common party worker could become Prime Minister one day .....
They have seen 11 party presidents in the last 20 years .....
Whereas congress is run by 2 people for the same period one after one ....
Nobody knows who will be the BJP president after JP Nadda ....
But everybody knows who will be the next president of INC .....

In BJP even a foot soldier can become king , just stick on to ideology and dont deviate , Latest few developments have proved this, it is bcoz of the central leadership, our karntaka BJP leaders would have selected their own chamchas or relatives , Modi and Shah should be appreciated for that.

congress need to introspect themselves , forget about their central leaders take DK as example, Moily, Ramanth Rai, Oscar, khadar controlling entire DK congress

    Really amazing decision.
Its called no bias on rich and poor,no bias on upper or lower.
Only merit, loyalty, and hard work of person enables him for better position.
Good Luck to Mr Narayan sir.

Only in India you can see just because a person comes from ground level, has no education, no capabilities of running a country, selling out PSUs one by one, merging banks only solution to recovery, economy crashed pathetically...
Yet Indians will vote for the PM because BJP is the only party where a ground level worker gets an opportunity to become a PM.
I might also become a PM one day, hopefully!!!!
