Congress holds torchlight protest demanding renaming of Mangaluru airport

Mangaluru, Nov 18: District Youth Congress and Mulky-Moodbidiri Block Congress held a torchlight protest rally from Circuit House to Bajpe airport on Wednesday, November 18 demanding to rename the Mangaluru International Airport along with condemning privatization of the airport.

District Youth Congress president Mithun Rai, Ramanath Rai, Abhayachandra Jain, Shakuntala Shetty, district Mahila Congress president Shalet Pinto, corporators Naveen D'Souza and others were present.



The district Congress has conducted a series of protest demanding the same. In the future, Congress is also planning to stage a protest hoping to include like-minded organisations to be part of an indefinite hunger strike.

The Congress has demanded that the Mangaluru airport be named Koti Chennaya airport or after any of the achievers from Tulunadu replacing Adani airport.

    The airport has come to Mangalore because of the efforts of Late Ullala Sreenivas Mallya....

    We should keep his name for the airport. This is the name acceptable to all becuase
    Ullala - Minorities will be happy
    Sreenivas - BJP and Sangha Pariwar will be happy
    Mallya - Congress likes this name and they also will be happy

    The name Mangala ooru, came from Mangala Devi temple 800 year ago. Hnece I suggest the Airport name should have and will be appropriate name"Mangala Devi International Airport". So all problems solved. We should give priority to Goddess.

    That is a noble cause but I don't think it will do any good because Adani Group has signed a contract for fifty years. Time bound contracts come with compensatory measures if the contract is terminated before expiry. Therefore the government will under no circumstances dare terminating it.

    Now, we have MLAs, MPs, and entrepreneurs who have milti-crores of assets. Why can't we chose some barren government land and build an airport in the vicinity of Udupi, Karkala, Moodabidri ?? If Kerala can have half a dozen airports, why we Kannadigas can't take a step in this direction ??

    Let Adani keep maintaining the existing airport. What do you say guys ??

    Is the INC, sincere in its approach to rename MIA, or is it a plain deliberate act, to garner attention (Drama) just to stay in the limelight ??? If they have the gumption, then let them rename the airport, after renowned son of the soil... Late Defense Minister, Shri George Fernandes !!!!
