DCW rescues young widow being tortured by in-laws from Madhya Pradesh

New Delhi, Nov 19 (IANS): In an inter-state joint operation, the Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) has rescued a 30-year-old woman who was allegedly being assaulted and tortured by her in-laws after the death of her husband in Madhya Pradesh's Imaliya.

A rescue operation was carried out after a complaint was made before the Commission by the victim's parents alleging that soon after the death of their daughter's husband, their daughter was being harassed by her in-laws.

The complaint further mentions that the victim's parents tried speaking to their daughter's in-laws over the phone to discuss the matter but they were in-turn threatened that they would kill their daughter.

Following the complaint, DCW member Sarika informed Chief Swati Maliwal who ordered an operation to rescue the woman.

Due to the intervention of DCW, the girl was safely brought back to Delhi and an FIR registered in the matter against the in-laws. The girl is now living with her family in Delhi and the Commission is helping her with the legal proceedings.

DCW Chief Swati Maliwal said, "Delhi Commission for Women never shies away from helping women even if the case falls out of our jurisdiction. Even in this case, we rescued the girl from Madhya Pradesh. Women across the country have developed a strong trust for the work that the Commission has been doing."
