Dammam, May 12: A road accident involving three cars took place on the Dammam-Khobar Expressway on May 11, in which one of the cars caught fire spitting a huge firestorm.
The accident occurred when the vehicles were switching lanes. An eyewitness informed that at least one dead body was pulled out of the blazing car.
People nearby tried hard to extinguish the fire before the fire brigade and other officials rushed to the scene. They were successful in extinguishing the blaze.
For many hours the road was fully blocked by law enforcement authorities diverting the traffic.
A recent survey by the traffic department shows that there has been an average of 17 deaths per day in road accidents in the Kingdom, which is considered to be the country’s highest rate of motor vehicle accidents.
The main causes of accidents are speeding and violating traffic signals without complying with traffic rules.
