Discontent in UP Congress spills on to social media

Lucknow, Nov 22 (IANS): Discontent in the UP Congress is now spilling over on to social media platforms and party leaders and workers are announcing their resignations on it.

In the past few days, party workers from various districts have put up posts about their departure from the party on Facebook, Twitter and WhatsApp and the trickle of leaders out of the party is now turning into a steady stream.

"In any other party, this kind of situation would have alarm bells ringing but the Congress leadership refuses to take cognisance of what is happening here. Leaders leaving a party is an accepted norm but when workers begin to leave, it is time for introspection," said expelled former Congress MP Santosh Singh.

Another expelled party leader Konark Dixit said, "Party workers are distressed over the manner in which thirty high command is ignoring the state of affairs in UP where elections are about 14 months away. A few individuals are steering party towards disaster and the leaders in Delhi are looking away," he said.

Several Congress leaders who are concerned about the revolt like situation brewing in the state unit, have sent letters to Congress president Sonia Gandhi and former president Rahul Gandhi but have neither got a response nor have been given an appointment.

"We have been seeking an appointment with Congress president since November last year but have not been granted one so far. The expulsion of ten senior party leaders in November 2019 was against the constitution of the Congress but no one is ready to listen to us," said former MLC Haji Siraj Mehndi who was among those expelled.

When contacted, UPCC president Ajay Kumar Lallu did not respond to calls and none of the party spokesmen were willing to comment on the situation.

"We cannot hold brief for what is happening. It is only senior leaders who can comment on the matter," said one of them.

UP has gone to BJP already, I want to see a day where India will have only two or three parties, until then Congress and all regional parties will be out of power for another decade or two terms and then forming or merging a single party . As these SP, BSP, TMC are split of Congress, until they unite and come under one administration and one party name they will not succeed. Else BJP should split like shiva sena.

Congress party leaders think that they are still in power and they dont want to come out and work on ground to boost morale of party workers.
They give commentary when they loose and when they win they suddenly go catch the trophy for photo graph.

How much ever you shout from the roof tops , there is no unity among Cong cadres so this debacle is expected. Forget UP its also in down south. and has led to a lots of discontent. During the CAA protests all minorities were asked to come on to the streets. Eventually, one section decided to stay inside their houses and protest online. While the other suffered a lot .

Congress failed to understand what common people require. Rahul Gandhi he kept on screaming about Raphael, China’s intrusion, GDP etc which the poor & less educated people cannot understand.
Organize the party from grass root level, recognize young dedicated party workers and elevate them. Instead of only blaming, do active politics 24/7. Learn from the opposition at least. See how Shah, Nadda etc are visiting and holding rallies in W Bengal, T Nadu etc. The elections are far away, but the booth level work has already begun with the cadres . A leader cannot sit and visit te constituency in the last minute waving from a open jeep. For sure you are destined to fail. At the end you will only have some internet karsevaks blaming the EVM.

I agree with you .that ''poor & less educated people cannot understand'' what the Congress leaders are fighting for and cannot relate to it. Even down here in Mlore we have a protests organized by the party leaders for a name change to the airport that 98% of the people do not use. Nobody is really bothered about this. vI wonder how the fiasco will translate to votes and win elections!!!!

Sorry ! Root Cause' is non existence of unity among Congress Cadres. Like we say in the CAA/NRC protests. You cannot blame the opposition for everything and be a 'lion of the internet' with a fake id.

For sure, the Congress can bounce back taking the BJP by its horns and winning handsomey !!! The grand old party should immediately announce and implement in the following in their election manifesto ....

    1. Uniform Civil Code
    2. Family planning bill
    3. No minority appeasement,

See how the tide turns. There is no other way out. By the way, If its NOT possible , then its better to merge with some regional parties .

Even if the Congress party includes implementation of 1 out of 3points in its election manifesto. RaGa and Abdul Khader wont win in Wayanad and Uallala respectively.
