Oliveira wins home race at season-ending Portugues GP


Portimao (Portugal), Nov 23 (IANS): Tech3 KTM's Miguel Oliveira won his home race at MotoGP's season-ending Portuguese Grand Prix on Sunday.

Oliveira started from pole position and dominated the race to record his second victory of the season.

Ducati's Jack Miller took second while Petronas Yamaha's Franco Morbidelli rounded off the podium.

World champion Joan Mir, who started from 20th retired in the 16th lap after a crash-laden start to the race. Italian great Valentino Rossi, meanwhile finished P12 in what was his final race for Yamaha.

"It's unreal. You dream about these kinds of races, and to finally be able to win, it's incredible," Oliveira said. "It's extra special because my family didn't get to see live my first win, and they get to see it live here. An incredible day for me, very emotional."

Oliveira had clinched his first MotoGP career win at Austria's Styrian GP in August.
