BJP pulls out all stops for UP legislative council poll


Lucknow, Nov 25 (IANS): The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Uttar Pradesh is pulling out all stops to ensure its victory in the upcoming legislative council polls, scheduled to be held on December 1.

The BJP is contesting the Teachers' constituency elections on symbol for the first time and is contesting of the 11 seats where polls are being held.

BJP MPs and MLAs are fanning out in various constituencies and holding meetings with party workers and voters. The exercise will continue till the end of this week.

Party functionaries have been asked to bring at least five voters to the 1400 polling centres on the polling day.

The functionaries have been allotted the names of voters that they have to bring to vote.

Deputy chief minister Dinesh Sharma and basic education minister Satish Dwivedi have been entrusted with the task of ensuring the party's victory in the elections.

UP BJP chief Swatantra Dev Singh and state general secretary Sunil Bansal are closely monitoring the progress of the campaign in every constituency.

UP BJP vice-president Vijay Bahadur Pathak said that the elections would, once again, prove that BJP remains the first choice of the voters.

BJP has 19 members in the upper house which is dominated by SP with 52 members. With these elections, the party plans to increase its strength in the upper house.
