Suspected US Drone Attack kills 13 in Pakistan

Islamabad, May 15 (DPA) A suspected US drone strike Saturday killed at least 13 people in Pakistan's tribal region near the Afghan border, intelligence officials said.

Two drones fired six missiles into three compounds in Tira valley of Khyber tribal district, a known sanctuary of Taliban and Al Qaeda militants.

"According to the initial reports, 13 people have been killed while several more are wounded," an intelligence official, speaking on condition of anonymity, said.

There were fears that the death toll could rise since some people are still believed to be buried under the rubble, the official said.

The intelligence official who spoke on condition of anonymity said the identity of those killed was not immediately known.

A second intelligence official, who also asked not to be identified, said the missile strikes hit residential compounds and women and children were among the dead.
