Udupi, May 16:
A goods-laden Mahindra Pick-up rammed electric poles at Koppalangady in the National Highway 17, near Kaup here on Saturday May 15.

As a result, two electric poles were totally damaged causing loss to public utility provider Mescom. The traffic was hindered for almost forty five minutes.

The pick-up was on its way to Udupi from Mangalore. In order to avoid the head-on collision with an oncoming Maruti Omni, the driver steered the vehicle besides the highway, thereby causing damage to electric poles.  The electricity supply was severed due to the impact as the fuses-hold was loosened by itself which lessened the possibility of further loss of life due to electrocution.

The workmen of Mescom tried to clear the cables that was strewn all over the national highway and replaced the damaged electric poles, amid the private buses tried to maneuver and speed away to reach the passengers to their  destinations within scheduled time.
