Cop killed in Afghanistan blast


Kabul, Nov 26 (IANS): A police officer was killed on Thursday as blast hit Tirin Kot city, the capital of Uruzgan Province in southern Afghanistan, provincial government spokesman Ahmad Shah Sahel said.

According to the official, the blast took place next to a police officer Hajji Lala's house in Tirin Kot city on Thursday afternoon, killing him on the spot, Xinhua reported.

Hajji Lala was a powerful anti-Taliban commander in the restive Uruzgan province with Tirin Kot as its capital 370 km southwest of Kabul.

Taliban militants, who have gained ground in Dehrawad district of Uruzgan province recently, have yet to make a comment.
