BJP behaving like East India Company: Congress on farmers protest

New Delhi, Nov 27 (IANS): The Congress on Friday slammed the Centre and the BJP for its stand on the ongoing farmers protest. It said the BJP was behaving like the East India Company.

Party spokesperson Jaiveer Shergill said, "The BJP is behaving like the East India Company and General Dyer with the farmers of the nation."

The Congress alleged that the farmers were being subjected to force and torture.

"Instead of welcoming them with red roses, the BJP is shamelessly spilling red blood of our farmers; the BJP government is not responsible but is merciless. It is not a government for farmers, but for cheaters," Shergill tweeted in Hindi.

Chaos was witnessed at the Tikri border (Delhi-Haryana) where farmers clashed with the police.

The Police used water cannons and tear gas to push back the protesting farmers. The nearby Metro services have been shutdown.

Breaking a three-four-layer police barricade between Panipat and Sonipat, thousands of farmers from Sangrur and Jandiala in Amritsar have been trying to march towards Delhi since dawn.

The farmers are protesting against the farm laws passed by Parliament.
